Teresa worked with Almost Fun as a Social Media Fellow to develop an effective social media strategy and outreach plan to broaden their impact on youth and to grow student and teacher engagement by increasing organizational visibility.
OVERVIEW
Developed and presented two competitive analyses to report on what other EdTech companies are doing to engage students and teachers on social media
Created an engagement strategy by brainstorming creative approaches for call-to-actions, hashtags, and response to concerns from users
Designed a content plan that will include identifying content pillars, frequency of posts, distribution channels, and a social media content calendar
Participated and led weekly team discussions on current issues in education and math learning
IMPACT
Almost Fun supports over 1.5 million middle and high school students every year. About 65% of their students are low-income and 70% are students of color. On Instagram alone, there was a 51.8% increase in reach and engagement in the first two weeks of activity. This outreach resulted in 40 new highly engaged Instagram followers.
In this blog, Teresa discusses the impact that race plays in producing unequal opportunities for educational success, specifically in math learning.
