Summary
Paola worked with Fiver Children’s Foundation as a College Access Fellow. She revamped their Stand Up to College (SUTC) program by creating a SUTC handbook that incorporated a social justice and interesectional lens of what college access and success can look like. During her fellowship, Paola also worked to implement the SUTC program by advising participants and co-facilitating college, essay writing, and financial aid workshops.
Overview
Build rapport with participants by engaging with them during office events including, Halloween events, Battle of the (Camp) Sessions, and Veteran’s Day activities.
Incorporated the backgrounds and experiences of backgrounds into the heart of the Stand Up to College Handbook, which incorporated a social justice and intersectional lens into what college access and success looks like.
Developed timelines for both juniors and seniors and included potential workshops, lesson plans, and pointers of how-to advise participants in the handbook
Co-facilitated college access workshops on topics including essay writing and financial aid
Advised students one-on-one around their current college application process

70 Youth Participants (11th and 12th graders currently using the program)
