What does FLIA mean to you?

“To me, FLIA is the embodiment of “be the change you want to see” , it’s hope and action. It means to me that my dreams & goals of bringing change to underrepresented, marginalized and often criminalized communities is possible."

What is the most important thing you learned during your fellowship? Was there an individual, event or encounter that influenced the work you’re doing now?

"In the end, I found out that no matter how much I planned, how much other leaders scheduled things, some days all that the youth wanted was a listening ear and at the very least that’s what I could provide. There were a lot of stories and histories that came with the teens while I was there, their stories and their willingness to share it with me is what influences my work, every child deserves to be heard, to be listened to."

What’s something interesting about you that’s not in your resume?

“I’m a writer. I love writing poetry, stories, think pieces, great things people say etc.. “Verba Volant. Scripta Manent” is one of my tattoos which is Latin for “Spoken words fly away, Written words remain”, it’s kind of my motto, you’ll rarely find me without a pen and some paper.”
