FUTURE LEADERS IN ACTION ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Future Leaders in Action has selected Milly Seraus-Roache as its next Executive Director. Milly will succeed Kirsten Abel, who founded FLIA and served as Executive Director since 2015.

“On behalf of the Future Leaders in Action Board of Directors, I am thrilled to announce that Milly Seraus-Roache has been appointed as Executive Director effective July 2021. After a thorough interview process, the Board determined that Milly has the integrity, determination, education and experience to support our FLIA Fellows and our community partners. Milly’s collaborative approach to leadership will strengthen the organization for long-term success,” said Maureen Roach Tobin, FLIA Board Chair. “We are also grateful to our founder and former Executive Director, Kirsten Abel, for her vision and ability to make this transition as seamless as possible, and grateful that Kirsten has agreed to join our Board of Directors to ensure that FLIA will continue to thrive.”

Milly Seraus-Roache has nearly 12 years of experience working in K-12 schools, higher education, as well as a variety of education focused nonprofits. She is also a PhD candidate in urban education at the CUNY Graduate Center where she was the recipient of various awards including a Hearst Dissertation Year Fellowship. In addition, she holds an M.A. in administration, leadership, and technology from New York University, an M.S.Ed in special education from Hunter College, and completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University, where she majored in government. A first generation college student, Milly is steadfastly committed to supporting underrepresented youth in achieving their greatest potential, regardless of their socioeconomic background.

“I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to advance FLIA’s mission. For me, this work is deeply personal and represents the type of support I once needed. FLIA means new possibilities to better equip traditionally marginalized students with the insights and experiences they need to have successful careers and make a positive impact on our society. I believe FLIA signifies a larger paradigm shift supporting a future where fair and meaningful work opportunities are accessible to all young people,” said Milly.

Since its founding in 2015, FLIA has served over 60 Fellows and 20 youth nonprofit partners throughout the US. “It is invigorating to hear how Milly wants to honor FLIA and our core values, while working to improve the support and opportunities for fellows, alumni, partner organizations, and our broader FLIA community. As we reimagine and create the future, we look forward to collaborating with Milly in service of cultivating leadership opportunities, especially for those left out of traditional opportunities, and supporting our nonprofit partners,” said Kirsten.
