College Prep Program Fellow - South Bronx United

Location: 192 E. 151st St, Fl. 5, Bronx, NY (with potential for remote work as needed)

Dates: May 23 - August 12, 2022

Compensation: $875/week stipend

COVID-19 Note:

Due to COVID-19, as a fellow you will work in-person, with some work from home available. All SBU staff are required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated as well as wear masks at all times when indoors. All NYC COVID safety policies are followed. All programming is run in person following our Covid Safety protocols.

FLIA and South Bronx United may move the fellowship entirely remote if there is a spike in cases. 

Future Leaders in Action Overview:

Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program. 

Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including time-management, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.

South Bronx United Overview:

South Bronx United uses soccer as a tool for social change. South Bronx United aims to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership so that they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and character development through activities on and off the soccer field and to unite a diverse group of individuals and an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

You will…

  • Support SBU's College Prep services, a keystone of the SBU’s effort to provide a pathway from middle school to high school to college to careers for primarily first-generation and immigrant youth.

  • Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls and virtual weekly leadership workshops

  • Attend virtual leadership training retreat and in-person gatherings with local fellows 

By the end of the fellowship, you will have… 

  • Completed 100% of rising senior family meetings explaining of college application and financial aid process (1-2 hour meetings)

  • Reviewed Rising Senior Summer Guide with students

  • Collected, uploaded, and organized all necessary documents from these meetings (e.g. contact information student birth certificate, passports, tax forms

  • Collected, reviewed, and entered 100% transcripts on to Salesforce for all rising seniors 

  • Evaluated school transcripts and graduation credit completion 

  • Developed student folders/files for each senior

  • Update Senior Summer Guide for the Class of 2023 to best prepare rising seniors for College Prep work 

  • Developed student tracker for grades and other important data

  • Coordinated and hosted college personal statement workshop 

  • Written two blog articles for FLIA 

  • Completed a final report and video about the fellowship
