Future Leaders in Action Overview:
Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including time-management, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.
Press Pass Overview:
Press Pass NYC amplifies student voices and inspires civic leadership through school journalism -- specifically by helping schools start and sustain student newspaper programs. They equip under-resourced schools with the free faculty training, student resources, and program support necessary to start a sustainable school newspaper program. Their goal is to see a school newspaper program in every public school in New York City, in the form that’s best for that school and those students.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
You will…
Work in collaboration with Press Pass’ Student Advisory Committee and partner organizations to support a free, one-week student newspaper editor bootcamp (led by approximately 5 facilitators) intended to prepare approximately 30 students to assume leadership roles on the school newspaper staff in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year
Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls and virtual weekly leadership workshops
Attend virtual leadership training retreat and in-person gatherings with local fellows
By the end of the fellowship, you will have…
Collaborated with the Press Pass Student Advisory Committee and partner organizations in the design, development and implementation of the pilot one-week student editor bootcamp to be launched in early August
Collaborated with the Student Advisory Committee on project planning and design (creating curriculum and program outline; publicity and outreach)
Collaborated with the Executive Director on project logistics and strategic partnerships and planning (event scheduling, planning and budgeting)
Followed up after completion of the one-week program with evaluations (surveyed participants and facilitators) and recommendations for future editor bootcamps as well as recommendations for supplemental programming for student editors throughout the school year
Written two blog articles for FLIA
Completed a final report and video about the fellowship

Experience in journalism, specifically scholastic journalism, is preferred
